Dumfries and Galloway

This is an unspoilt area of contrasts - from the stunning mountains of the Southern Uplands to the pretty harbours of the Solway Coast. With a climate enhanced by the warmth of the Gulf Stream, gardens in this area nurture plants generally not seen elsewhere in Scotland.

The area has a long and varied history with many well preserved castles, and connections to Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots to name just two. Robert Burns lived and worked in Dumfries.

A wide range of sporting activities is available, from those based on water - fishing, sailing, water-skiing - to those on land - walking, cycling and, of course, golf.

With farming and forestry core elements of the Region's economy, wildlife thrives and the area has several highly respected nature reserves.

There are many talented craftspeople producing a wide variety of work, and Kirkcudbright, our local town, is an established artists' colony.
